Flats and high-rises

Apartment signal, floor by floor.

In an apartment, your signal depends on your floor, which way your flat faces, and what’s between you and the tower: other towers in the complex, the lift core, and in newer buildings, coated glass. Two flats on the same floor can read very differently.

Why it happens

Where the signal goes.

01

The lift core and stairwell

Flats built around a central concrete core lose signal on the core side. Rooms facing it are often the weakest.

02

Neighbouring towers

In dense complexes, the tower next door can block the path to the mobile tower entirely for some flats and floors.

03

Low floors and high floors

Low floors get shadowed by surrounding buildings. High floors can see many towers and suffer interference. Neither is automatically better.

04

Coated glass in new buildings

Energy-saving glass that keeps flats cool also blocks mobile signal. Big windows don’t mean good signal.

SignalCheck

What we measure here.

Every job starts with a reading, room by room. No guesses.

How a SignalCheck works

  • Every room in your flat, per network, with windows closed (how you actually live)
  • The balcony and the corridor, to see what reaches the floor
  • Where your flat faces, and what’s in the way
  • Whether neighbours on your floor see the same thing (often useful for the RWA)
The fix

What usually works.

The readings decide. These are the routes we most often recommend for apartments. If the SignalCheck says none of them will help, we'll tell you.

Wi-Fi calling with full Wi-Fi coverage

For many flats, this fixes calls in every room. We check your Wi-Fi reaches the bedrooms first.

An operator complaint with readings

Readings from several flats carry more weight than one resident’s complaint.

A SignalFix install for your flat

Through a lawful route agreed before work starts, with a Bar Certificate for every room.

A building-wide approach

If the whole tower is affected, the right answer is often in-building coverage through the operators. See gated communities.

Proof

Readings before. Readings after.

Every SignalFix job ends with a Bar Certificate: the same reading in the same rooms, taken again and signed.

About the Bar Certificate

Questions

About apartments.

I just moved into a new flat and there’s no signal. Who should fix it?
Start by measuring. If it’s only your flat, the fix is yours. If the whole floor or tower is affected, raise it with the RWA or builder: building-wide coverage is better solved once, for everyone.
Is a higher floor always better?
No. Higher floors see more towers, which can mean more interference. We’ve seen both patterns. That’s why we measure instead of assuming.
